Darlene Sims

Mrs. Darlene (Jones) Sims at 96 years of age passed away peacefully on Friday April 12, 2024 in Winters, Texas. Darlene was born January 20, 1928 to Lula Mae (Weaver) and John William Jones in Goree, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents and all her brothers: Earl Jones, Austin Jones, L.D. Jones, Wencel Jones and her sisters: Maryetta (Jones) Wilson and Ina Mae (Jones) Brown. Darlene married the late Wayne A. Sims on January 4, 1947, in Haskell, Texas. They lived in Stamford, Texas and three children were born from this union. The family moved to Winters, Texas in the early 1960's and has resided there ever since. She was a member of the Winters First Baptist Church since the day she moved to Winters. Darlene professed her life to Christ at an early age and every day thereafter. She served on many committees in the church and community throughout her life. She enjoyed singing and praising the Lord with all her heart. She was involved in the Eastern Star and participated in several talent shows for many years. Darlene loved her family beyond measure. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was always laughing and had a smile on her face. Her passion was composing poems, songs, singing, playing the piano, organ and painting. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother and friend. She never met a stranger and always thought of others first. To know her was to love her. Darlene's beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Glenda (Sims) Israel and son-in-law Dr. Kim Israel of Amarillo, TX; Jerry Sims and daughter-in-law Jan (Robinson) Sims of Winters, TX; Jimmy Sims and daughter-in-law Lori (Biller) Sims of Oklahoma City, OK. Darlene is preceded in death by her granddaughter Melanie (Israel) Austin and her great granddaughter Olivia Austin. She is survived by five grandchildren: Chad Israel, Jamie (Sims) Burow and husband Peter Burow, Dr. Heather (Sims) Wheeler and husband Ryan Wheeler, Dr. Heath Sims and Shaughn Albertson. Extended grandson, Brian Austin and wife Kelly Austin. Three great grandchildren: Logan, Josh and Rhys and a host of devoted family members, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Winters, Texas. Graveside services will be held at the cemetery in Goree, Texas at 3 PM. Friends and Family are welcome to a gathering with refreshments immediately after the morning memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Darlene Sims to Ballinger Home Health and Hospice. The family is especially grateful to the entire staff at Our House who loved, cherished and helped give Darlene Sims a joyful and peaceful life.
