Janice Marks

Janice Kay Marks, 72, of Winters, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Janice was born on November 16, 1951 in Winters, TX to Johnnie and Loretta Pierce. She has two sisters, Karen Hicks and Renee Calcote, and a brother Alton Pierce. After graduating from Winters High School in 1970, Janice attended Abilene Commercial College. She went on to work for Ranger Construction, Taliaferro Drilling, Abilene State Supportive Living Center, and retired from Abilene Independent School District. Janice married Robert Bartlett Marks, also of Winters, on July 25, 1970. Together they raised their daughter Tina Bryant and son Toby Marks, both of Tuscola. Their fifty-three years of marriage was filled with love, joy, and laughter. Robert and Janice worked hard for their family and never failed to make time for their children and their busy schedules. Janice, also known as Mimi, cherished her three grandsons, Reese (23), Kellon (18), and Tucker (5). Janice was a woman of many roles. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was kind, compassionate, and had an incredible sense of humor. If you met her, you loved her. She lit up a room with her smile and her endless wit. Her friends and family knew if they were near Janice, there would be jokes, laughter, stories, and memories made to be cherished for a lifetime. She loved her family fiercely. She was beautiful inside and out and took care of everyone. Janice would always put others first and was a friend to all. Janice is survived by her husband Robert Marks; daughter, Tina Bryant and husband John; son Toby Marks and wife Dena, and three beautiful grandchildren: Reese Bryant, Kellon Bryant, and Tucker Marks; brother Alton Pierce and wife Betty; sister, Karen HIcks; sister Renee Calcote and husband Mike; seven nieces: Sonya Ritchie, Didi Ramsey, Kari Cooper, Angela Hicks, Amy Slaton, Allison Calcote, and Missy Chapman; one nephew, Justin Calcote; as well as 17 great nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Loretta Pierce; nephew A.J. Hicks; brother-in-law, Bill Hicks; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ernest and Erna Marks; sisters-in-law Ernestine Chipps and Wanda Dendy; brothers-in-law Jerry Marks, Don Marks, and Marshall Marks. Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Winters Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Winters with burial following at Lakeview Cemetery.
