April 10, 1924 - September 6, 2021
Ruth Miriam Elliott Sellers passed from this earth on Monday, September 6, 2021. Ruth was born April 10, 1924, to Eugene and Cora Elliott and lived her whole life in Texas. She had a couple of previous marriages and then met Doug Sellers. In July 1970, Ruth married Doug and they were married until his death in 2011. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Cora Elliott; her husband, Doug Sellers, her son, John Elliott Olvera; her sister, Esther Speck, and her brother, John Melvin Elliott. Ruth is survived by her children, David Knight and Marianna Zolondek; five grandchildren, Rebekah Westmoreland, Aaron Knight, Alix Knight, Haven Zolondek, and Lincoln Zolondek, and one great granddaughter, Averie Davis. Ruth was a schoolteacher in Abilene and was quite popular in the Teachers Association and Abilene Independent School District. She retired from teaching in 1973. In retirement, Ruth was able to pursue her passion of writing. She was a member of the Writers Guild in Abilene and published many articles. Ruth was artistic and could do almost anything. Her artistic abilities spanned painting, crochet, sewing, quilting, tatting, flower arrangements, and so much more. She endured many challenges in her life and kept pushing forward. She was a very strong woman. She loved her family and always strove to do the right thing. She was spunky and enjoyed a good debate especially with her son. She had a strong faith and could easily hold her own in discussions of the Bible. She loved board games and was a force to be reckoned with in Trivial Pursuit, the Bible edition. She also loved to play Yahtzee and the game was always close by. She loved crossword puzzles and word scrambles. She had a great personality and always seemed to charm people. She could make a person laugh easily with her quick wit. She enjoyed helping others and always offered to do so. She had a huge soft spot for animals and rehabbed many, birds that fell out of the nest, calves the momma cow refused to let nurse, pups that needed rescue or a home. She had a beautiful soul. Her life was long and full. She will be missed by her family, but her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. Now she rests in peace, resting from a life well lived. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene.
