Jerry McCabe

Jerry Loyd McCabe, 79, walked through the gates of Heaven March 22, 2024 at the Bronte Health and Rehab facility. He passed away peacefully and is now at the feet of Jesus with family and friends who passed before him. Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Karen McCabe Tribbett, sister Carole McCabe, long time partner and friend Mildred DeBerry and many dear friends. He is survived by his daughter Carla Michulka and husband Steve; Ex-wife Becky Bledsoe; sons: Mark, Lance, Andy DeBerry and Alfred Yates; grandchildren Alexa and Hallie Michulka, Hunter and Dakota Tribbett, Justin Oliver and Brad Douglas DeBerry and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jerry was born in San Angelo on November 5, 1944 to parents Harold and Merle McCabe. He graduated from high school in Ballinger and attended Angelo State in San Angelo briefly before deciding to go to work. Jerry had an indescribable passion for life. He was a diesel mechanic for many years as the owner of McCabe Automotive in Winters, which became his home for over 50 years. He was very passionate about his work and his customers. He was always available day or night. He touched so many lives with his sense of humor, smile and contagious laugh. Even though he lost his ability to care for himself he always had an amazing outlook on life. Jerry was an inspiration to so many who knew him and will be greatly missed. He enjoyed country music and listening to stories provided by the nursing home. In earlier years, he enjoyed time with family, hunting, fishing and playing guitar with friends. Jerry had too many friends to mention and he loved every one. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to extend a heart felt thank you to the staff of Bronte Health and Rehab. The care he received there was exceptional. Jerry loved all of you as you became his family over the years he resided there. He was very well cared for and we truly appreciate the dedication and care many of you provided for him. We would also like to thank the staff of Hospice of San Angelo for the care he received. He grew to love all who visited him during his short time under Hospice care. In lieu of flowers you may donate to Hospice of San Angelo or to your favorite charity. The family will receive friends at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Winters Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Wingate Cemetery.
